Back Pain Treatments

If you suffer from back pain, Dr. Charles Findlay at Findlay Chiropractic in Lincoln, NE, offers holistic treatments to help. Back pain can be the result of many different things, some are soft tissue-related and others are related to bones and joints. In some cases, back pain may be an acute condition and, in others, a chronic condition. The type of treatment is determined after a complete examination to ensure we have a full understanding of the body’s mechanics.

Spinal Adjustments

Spinal adjustments are how chiropractors realign the spinal column. When the vertebrae have become misaligned, not only might the neural messages from the brain not get through correctly, but the muscles and other tissues that support the spine can be painfully overburdened. Dr. Findlay will choose the type of spinal adjustment that is right for your body and comfort. The Diversified Technique is the most widely taught and used technique. It is a high-velocity, low-amplitude, hands-on method of adjusting. The Activator method uses a handheld instrument that applies carefully calibrated force without any twisting motions. The adjustment is done so quickly that the muscles don't have time to resist.

Once the spine has been returned to healthy alignment, the back may still be sore. Other chiropractic techniques help to holistically treat this pain.

Soft Tissue Massage

Soft tissue massage can help with back pain that results from muscle spasms and tightness in the myofascial tissues. Therapeutic massage increases blood circulation into the back, which reduces inflammation and tightness. When you get a massage before an adjustment, the adjustment may not require as much force and may hold better.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to vibrate and heat the tissue below the skin. It helps to reduce inflammation and swelling, increase circulation, and decrease pain by stimulating the endorphins. All of these help to speed up the healing process.

Inferential Therapy

Interferential therapy uses two kinds of low-level electric currents that interfere with each other. They produce a pleasant tingling feeling and travel below the skin to stimulate endorphins, which are nature's pain relievers. They are often used to relieve pain in the back.

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise helps patients keep their backs pain-free with stretches and strengthening exercises to ensure proper joint support.
